Modular route to the flight deck:
PPL
A PPL lays a foundation for flying whether you wish to fly for a hobby or peruse a career as an airline pilot. The minimum hours required for completion of a PPL is 45, on average most students complete the course in 50-80 hours depending on frequency of lessons and aptitude. If you are interested in going down the modular route to becoming an airline pilot, the PPL is where you would start.
Night Rating
A night rating can be completed as part of your PPL or added to your licence afterwards. It requires a minimum of 5 hours training, there are no exams or flight tests involved in the course. A night rating is a prerequisite for the application of a Commercial Pilots Licence.

Hour Building
A prerequisite for the application of a Commercial Pilots Licence is 100 hours pilot in command (PIC). You will finish your PPL with a minimum of 10 hours PIC, which means you will need to build 90 hours flight time as pilot in command before commencing commercial flight training. The hour building phase is typically something that you can do alongside completing your ATPL Theory exams.
